PEB’S 2020 Highly Cited Researchers

Posted: Nov 17th, 2020

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology is proud to announce that five of its Chief Investigators - Professors Matthew Gilliham, Ryan Lister, Harvey Millar, Barry Pogson and Steve Tyerman - have been named as Highly Cited Researchers on the 2020 list from Clarivate Web of Science™.

The annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index.

Prof. Gilliham (Uni Adelaide) focuses on exploring transport and signalling processes that underpin stress tolerance, particularly soil salinity and extreme pH. His projects span from genetics, cell biology, electrophysiology, whole plant physiology to field studies.

Prof. Lister (UWA)'s research focuses on the epigenome; the molecular code superimposed on the genome that plays important roles in controlling how the information stored in the DNA is used by cells. His work has increased understanding of the epigenome in plants, humans, stem cells, development and the brain, and is driving advances that will provide benefits to agriculture, human health, and medicine.

Prof. Millar (UWA)’s research findings have offered insight into how energy in plant cells is made, and ways that this can be used to drive plant growth and protein content, and engineer crops of the future to benefit farmers and improve global nutrition.

The overarching theme of Prof. Pogson (ANU)’s research is to determine the controls and regulators of communication between the chloroplast and nucleus. This includes discovery of genes and metabolites involved in epigenetics, RNA metabolism, chloroplast-nuclear signaling, carotenoid biosynthesis, photosynthesis and drought.

Prof. Tyerman (Uni Adelaide)’s research has broadly focused on solute and water transport, signaling processes in plants and wine grape physiology.

The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information™ at Clarivate. It also uses the tallies to identify the countries and research institutions where these scientific elite are based.
