Virtual Plant Cell goes Quantum at Perth Writers' Festival

Posted: Nov 12th, 2019

The debut Quantum Words Perth festival took place in Western Australia over three packed days last weekend, with Plant Energy Biology’s Virtual Plant Cell along for the ride as a featured exhibit.

The first day of the event saw PEB’s Science Communicator Karina Price speak as part of the Cool Jobs session, alongside the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR)’s Natasha Hurley-Walker, and Leif Cocks from The Orangutan Project. Karina spoke about the Virtual Plant Cell, and her experience in finding creative and engaging ways to bridge between scientists and the general public, and to engage, educate and excite the community with plant science.

Between sessions, visitors were invited to experience the Virtual Plant Cell in the exhibition space. Over the course of the event, dozens of eager participants took their very first virtual reality tour courtesy of VPC. In the lead-up to the event, VPC also took centre stage with a video feature on the 45 metre high Yagan Square Digital Tower in the heart of Perth.

Quantum Words Perth is a writers’ festival dedicated to writing about science, creativity and the spaces in which they intersect. The event brought together outstanding thinkers, scientists and creators from across Australia and overseas to engage in conversations about the ways in which we come to understand ourselves, our world, and the expansive universe we live within.
