A Tech [+] Award has been presented to Karina Price, Science Communications Officer for the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology for her work as a woman in technology. This includes her leadership of PEB’s educational virtual reality program, Virtual Plant Cell.

Women in Technology Western Australia (WiTWA)'s Tech [+] Awards celebrate and acknowledge incredible women in tech [+] in Western Australia. The 2020 Awards were presented to twenty recipients during a celebration of diversity and inclusion at Optus Stadium last week.

Ms Price leads PEB’s Education and Outreach program which aims to excite and educate the community about plant science. She founded the Virtual Plant Cell (VPC), a leading educational VR initiative that has been recognised for its impact as a Western Australian Premier’s Science Award finalist. She has led a number of other immersive technology-related educational experiences to connect audiences with plant science and its applications to real world challenges including Plantarium, a short full-dome film.

“It’s an honour to not only have my work acknowledged by this award, but to stand beside so many other incredible women doing inspirational work in this space” she said.

“My own achievements would not have been possible without the support and mentorship of those around me, and so I hope to be a role model to others in turn”.
